Pledge to Change Light Bulbs
The Spring
Arts and Music Festival was a success by everyone's accounting.
Thousands of people, some from as far away as Ohio, came to enjoy the
exhibits and the suddenly clear, warm day. The Quality of Life
Coalition's Committee for a Green Hoboken enjoyed success as
well. We obtained pledges from over 150 households to change incandescent
bulbs for at least 5 fluorescent bulbs. We distributed 200 free bulbs
and donated 250 tote bags to the cause.
Critical to the day was the participation of 14 volunteers. It started
with JD Capuano who before heading off to Spring Lake
to attend a wedding, volunteered his car and himself to collect boxes
of bulbs, totes, fliers and tables/chairs down to the Washington Street
site where we had a space between 3rd and 4th Streets. Ann Holtzman
came along with 500 new QLC brochures she had created and printed, and
a bit later four students from Stevens' service fraterrnity Alpha
Phi Sigma appeared. With the guys and gals stopping people walking
past we were swamped with people clamoring to sign the pledge (and receive
the free merchandise). Later in the day four more Stevens students, Joan
Abel and Caroline Carlson came to help. We were
so successful that we had nothing more to give out. With the help of the
latest arrivals we closed down at 4:15 p.m.

The Stevens group was so great we have to mention them by name. The majority
of them are going into their last year, one will graduate later this month.
They are: Eric Abrahamsen, Michael Bellucci; Sean Coyle, Brittany
Crosby, Sarah Gehring, Cindy Hassler, Phi Jonat and Ashley-Jo
Watson.

The next event at which QLC's Committee for a Green Hoboken will
have a table is the Our Lady of Grace FUNFEST in Church Square Park on
Sunday, June 1, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. We will need help once again
and would greatly appreciate your involvement for an hour or two.
Please let us know if you can help in spreading the word about the greening
of Hoboken. Call 201-963-3511.
